Big Hollow parents/guardians-
I hope you have all had a wonderful week. While it is extremely busy, things are going very well on our campus. I hope your kids are having a great experience so far this year. I get the pleasure of seeing the interactions of our staff and students in all three buildings daily, and it really brings a lot of joy to my job.
There is one area of concern that I would like to bring up that you may be able to assist us with by having a conversation at home. We've noticed an uptick in conversations among our younger students (Kindergarten - 4th grade) that include themes related to safety and, at times, threats of harm. In the times that we live in now, no matter the age, comments such as “I’m going to shoot you with a gun” cause a high elevation of emotion from all involved. It would be very helpful if it can be reinforced at home that these types of comments are not appropriate, especially in the school setting. Please know that it is a very small percentage of students that are doing this, but the problem seems to be a little more elevated this year. I am just bringing it to your attention in hopes that a reinforcement from home might help alleviate some of the issues we are seeing at those ages.
